Wudang Xuan Gong Quan Yi Lu - Group Performance - 武当玄功拳一路
Please LIKE and SUBSCRIBE if you enjoy this video!
Xuan Gon Quan 玄功拳 is a form taught early in the Wudang curriculum. It is comprised of three sets
1 - yi lu 一路 (first road (or path or way))
2 - er lu 二路 (second road)
3 - san lu 三路 (thirs road)
This is a performance of Xuan Gon Quan Yi Lu 玄功拳一路 by a group of young students as they prepare to move on to more training.
These forms teach basic movements and coordination and help the students move to more advanced forms. Punches, kicks, jumps, wide stances, and movement in all directions are practices heavily at these stages.
Xuan 玄 translates as “mysterious”, “dark”, or “mystical. Gong 功 is the same as in the word Gong Fu (Kung Fu), meaning work or “hard work” and Quan 拳 means fist.
So, part of the idea in the naming is that the form seems dark or mysterious to the outsider watching it, but from inside, when you learn it it becomes clear. Like those looking into a dark window can’t see, but those inside can see out into the light. When you work with a form like this, you begin to understand that relaxation, softness and flexibility will give you the speed and power to do the form quickly. You begin to understand that the Yin leads to the Yang.
Let me know in the comments what you think of this form and Kung Fu weapons forms in general. I’m interested to know your thoughts.

Here is more information about Wudang Fist:
Wudang quan (Chinese: 武當拳; pinyin: Wǔdāng quán) is a class of Chinese martial arts. In contemporary China, Chinese martial arts styles are generally classified into two major groups: Wudang (Wutang), named after the Wudang Mountains; and Shaolin, named after the Shaolin Monastery. Whereas Shaolin includes many martial art styles, Wudangquan includes only a few arts that use the focused mind to control the waist, and therefore the body. This typically encompasses Tai ji quan, Xing-Yi chuan and Bagua zhang,[6] but must also include Baji chuan and Wudang Sword.  Although the name Wudang simply distinguishes the skills, theories and applications of the internal arts from those of the Shaolin styles, it falsely suggests these arts originated at the Wudang Mountains. The name Wudang comes from a popular Chinese legend that incorrectly purports the genesis of Tai chi chuan and Wudang Sword by an immortal, Taoist hermit named Zhang Sanfeng who lived in the monasteries of Wudang Mountain.

    If a teacher abuses their student the teacher has failed on every level. Pain doesn't teach anything, those who inflict it to enforce respect don't deserve to be listened to.

      Yes, they practice sparring daily and fight in competitions. I'm in the process of making a video with the first demonstrator fighting two people in a sparring match, back to back (not at the same time). The forms (dance) helps with balance, speed, and technique. A lot like bag work (which they also do) and shadow boxing in western boxing.

    I think it would be better to learn standard changquan(long fist) or tantui. It contains a lots of side kick, the kick itself and the flow before and after don't seems so natural. The students are not performing this well, because it is not a good introductory form.

    Chinese kung fu that include throws, grappling, and wrestling are more useful than just striking... yet the chinese refuse to acknowledge them and only focus on the more "prettier" forms of kung fu that is mostly useless. The chinese did have a history of wrestling and grappling moves. That is a fact.

    • @DaWeiGongfu
      @DaWeiGongfu 3 місяці тому

      It's true. My master (Pan Qing Fu) incorporated throws, wrestling and joint locks in every class, to complement the weapons and forms we were learning. He liked that, in his words, "Kung Fu is beautiful" because it attracted people and kept them interested, but that everything we did had to be related back to fighting. There is modern Chinese grappling called Shuai Jiao that is taught and trained. Though, I think it doesn't get as much attention as Wushu forms etc. these days. It has a long history and can be traced back 6,000 years. Pan Qing Fu taught me the term Shuai Jiao, but also nicknamed it "Chinese Judo". I thought that was funny. 😀
